Hi folks as most of you know Sarah and I did quite an extensive tour of Europe in 2007. Here are some of the VW's we met along the way.
I hope this is of some Interest to you fellow Wurrzels
Well before we could go we had to put Black Betty into Storage
Then we went down to Cornwall, whilst there we visited Cornish Disneyland (Trego Mills) to you and me and rather appropiately in there Car Park Walt Disneys FILOMORE parked next to us
By May we toured around Ireland and Northern Ireland, where in the North we gate crashed a Wedding and were used as part of their Photo Shoot, once we had cleaned the van up a bit
We then spent some quality time in Scotland, making it all the way to John O Groats, where we met several other T2's in the Car Park there.
there was a 4th green T2 up there but they left before I had chance to take a photo. Anyway we were going further North and soon boarded the Ferry from there to
. . . . . .
ICELAND:
These were 2 Germans we met who toured around and we kept meeting up with on the road.
we then met this guy, who owns Icelands only Car Museum
Touring Rejkyavik we also spotted this BUG a few times. With a Country total population of 250,000 people it's not surprising that people soon got to know us. We recommend the cities only campsite which is by the football stadium, and then get yourself out on the town
After Iceland and a return trip to the Faroe Islands we toured Norway, Sweden Finland, Denmark then GERMANY.
Where we were inundated with VW. What with it being the FATHERLAND and all
This was the fire station at Oldenburg where the VW had originally been looked after for 20 years. These guys gave us a free fireman badge
One couple in Schwangua (the castle from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) let us sign their VW
In Holland the national colour was Orange so we were quite popular, this bar owner Gert) supplied us with some Heineken and delayed our departure by 12 hours
Nice Gti
In Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, you need a good vehicle for the Alps and VWs were many as this photo shows at one of the many mountain tunnels
We also found this Graveyard for Beetles in Switzerland
We then headed East and on crossing from Germany to the CZECH republic, we thought instantly they didn't like VW's as this is what they did to one poor Beetle
We toured down South through Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia, the latter still showing signs of the war and minefield signs encouraged Sarah to pee on the road rather than go behind a bush
then back into Croatia and the ferry to Italy. Where we spotted this BUG in San Marino
Moving further down into Rome, we met our first other Eurotrekkers in a T2. Pat and Danielle had been on the road as long as us and had toured the Med quite extensively. They are wintering up in a ski resort in France for the winter before heading off again
After arriving down the Italian coast through Sicilly we boarded a ferry to Malta
It was in Malta we both got jobs and looked at the possibility of living out there for 6 months. but the VW needed a new MOT in January and we thought it would have been nice to return home for Christmas. which it was and so began our epic voyage home. With MANY MANY lessons learned
There's a cracking VW club in Malta but unfortunately many of my images of Malta were lost when our camera was stolen in France
but on a positive note we have had a great year, we are both well and the VW is fixed with MOT and 2 years warranty with unlimited mileage on the NEW Engine
